Resilient by Rick Hanson BOOK 2 POST 2

Image
Resilient by Rick Hanson uses a blend of positive psychology, neuroscience, and useful life practices to explain the importance of resilience in everyday scenarios. Hanson believes (which I wholeheartedly agree with) that resilience is needed in our day-to-day life rather than solely for events that require enduring terrible conditions. Resilience is needed to cope with stress, raise a family, heal from old pain or traumas, deal with work, and so much more.  My thought process regarding resilience previous to this book was also that the action pertains more towards life changing events, like pushing past a tragedy.  However, this book taught me that resilience is a practice, and, like all practices, requires development. Through this constant practice you can achieve a more improve state of mental well-being. Who wouldn't want that? In the book, the author explains that this road towards a better state of mental well being begins with self compassion. Compassion is a mixture of tw

In short this book is about resilience. Many of the times we perceive resilience as an important trait needed to persevere through certain difficult times in our lives, but this book focuses on the idea that resilience is needed in everyday life scenarios.  Naturally we encounter many problems that we can’t avoid such as health issues, stress from work, and family troubles to name a few. Dr. Rick Hanson, the author, uses a healthy mix of positive psychology, mindfulness, and neuroscience to support his points made. The author has all the credentials to back up his work which I find great because many times self help books are filled with unproven blurbs of information. I chose this book because I used to be a sucker for the self-help genre, but it’s been a while since I’ve picked one up. I think this book is a great opportunity to freshen up on my practice of mindfulness, and the way I handle life stressors.  The reviews seemed very positive and mentioned the use of real world exampl

Olympic National Park - The most unique national park in the country  Olympic National Park holds the honor of being the most unique national park out there. This national park is infamous for having a three for one deal. Who doesn’t love getting three things all for the price of one? Olympic’s appeal comes from its three different yet all stunning landscapes within the park. The list includes:  the coastal the rainforest the meadows.  I have a goal – which will take a lifetime – to experience all of the national parks in the country. For as long as I can remember, right at the top of my list of most anticipated national parks was Olympic National Park. This past Labor Day weekend, I spent a total of 3 days visiting Olympic National Park with my girlfriend and brother, and now I can confirm that it is as unique and distinct as can be.  Olympic National Park   7 Lakes Basin We spent our first day backpacking through the meadows on the seven lakes basin trail.
